We have received notification from the Department Of Conservation that there is an alert on the Tarawera Trail in the area between the Te Wairua area and Hot Water Beach.
They have had reports of recent rock fall, (last week) and although this rock fall is minimal, there is evidence of cracking and loose rock in the cliff face.
Please note that the Trail is not closed. We have had people walk over it over the weekend without any issue and like always they thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The advice that we have been told to give to you is as "you depart Te Wairua Amenity Area and head towards Hot Water Beach, the track begins to leave lake level and quickly sidles up steeply, directly below a rocky cliff. The cliff is approximately 300 metres along the track and 50 metres high. There is vegetation growing on the rock face. We ask that as you walk this steep section, you walk it without stopping and be aware of possible falling rock. Do not attempt to walk this section of track in high winds or consistent rain."
We will keep you informed of any updates as they come to hand.
