Discover the unique lifestyle, heritage and history of the Tuhourangi people, who used to live on the shores of Lake Tarawera and guide overseas visitors to see the Pink & White terraces.
In 1886, Mount Tarawera erupted, destroying the terraces and the way of life of the Tuhourangi. Some settled at Whakarewarewa, co-existing with the Ngati Wahiao tribe who lived there. Here, the Tuhourangi people were able to rebuild their lives.
Join Karen Walmsley, a descendent of the Tuhourangi Tribe, on an exclusive journey of cultural discovery and natural wonders.
